Q: What tonneau cover should I get for Toyota Tacoma?
I’d like to cover the bed of my truck during the winter and want to know what the best tonneau cover or truck bed cover would be best for me. Anyone with a Tacoma, please chime in.
A: I just saw another Tacoma tonneau question, crazy, we must all have the best trucks! I got an Extang Express and it’s perfect. I also have a buddy that has a gaylords tonneau cover which is the hard shell type too. We both got our goods at http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/10A50174.aspx for the really good deals. I called them up and got the best price. Actually was thinking about going the Ebay rout but online retailers are real dealers and will help with any warranty problems.
Q: Is the 6 cylinder toyota tacoma engine more reliable than the 4?
I’m interested in buying a toyota tacoma, probably a 97 or 98. I don’t need the 6 cylinder because I won’t be doing any heavy hauling with it. Plus the gas mileage is worse obviously. But is it more reliable than the 4? Even just for daily driving? thanks
A: The 4 banger gets better milage.I have a 81 truck that has 270,000 and she still runs…The six cylinder is reliable also. You get a littless less for your gallon of gas but it,s worth it if you want to get on the freeway or live in the mountains like me….I,ve had 2 6 cylinder tacos and would not hesitate to get another…Yet I have 6 cars and trucks 3 are toyotas.
Q: Do you have to pay duty to import a Toyota Tacoma to Canada from the US?
I’m considering buying a new (2008) Tacoma down in the states as they are MUCH cheaper down there, then importing it to Canada. Would I have to pay duty on it?
A: First you have to find a dealer that will sell you one ” and you wont ” if vehicle is for export and your not a residence of United States
If it was that simple why bother having dealers in Canada, its simply not allowed by the Mfg to export new vehicles, used is not a problem. sorry
Q: How much gas mileage does your Toyota Tacoma get?
I’m thinking about getting one. I drive an 07′ Titan right now, and the gas sucks! Is the Tacoma any better? Thanks!
A: I have an 05 prerunner V6 W/auto & sport pkg, I avg around 20 city/24 hwy if I don’t run too fast on the highway.
Q: Can I program a spare key for our 2005 Toyota Tacoma without dealer help?
We have lost one of the keyrings for our truck, and also I would like to have a spare or two around anyway, just in case.
It is a 2005 Tacoma, it has the remote unlock keyfob which is nice, but not necessary really.
I see I can purchase replacement keys online, but they need to be programmed to match the truck.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?
A: I need to know if it is a black or grey key you are trying to program, and make sure that you have a black key to program from. If you are programming a black key from a black key, do this:
1. Insert old black key into ignition. LEAVE THE IGNITION OFF THE ENTIRE TIME.
2. Pump the gas five times
3. Pump brake six times.
4. Remove old black key from ignition.
5. Put new black key in ignition.
6. Pump gas one time.
7. Let the truck sit like that until the security light quits blinking.
If it is a grey key, do exactly the same, but pump gas 4 times and brake 5 times.
If you do not have a black key to start with, you cannot program it. You cannot add a key yourself if you only have a sub (valet) key. It can be done, but the dealer has to erase all the old keys and start over.
Q: My 2000 toyota Tacoma has been squealing like a pig! How do I stop it?
Does your Tacoma squeal when you let off of the gas after about 30mph or so? Does it do it intermittently? Does it sound like it’s coming from the back of the truck? Is your Tacoma between the year 1998 and 2001? Has this been driving you insane for years and the mechanics can’t figure it out?
A: I’ve had this problem for years and it’s such an easy fix. The drive shaft has two grease fittings near the differential. One is inside the U-joint and the other is outside of it. Grease those and you’ll be in business.
The squeaking comes from the drive shaft being on and off load. The drive shaft moves back and forth and up down when you accelerate and decelerate. When you decelerate it takes the drive shaft off load and begins to rub against itself. That’s where the squeal is coming from!!
My truck’s grease fittings were completely empty. I had to pump the grease gun about 15 times to fill it up. Now it runs like a champ.
Q: How do we turn off the check engine light in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and in a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 PU?
Okay, We have 2 vehicles that need to be inspected and have been told that they can not be inspected with the check engine light on. We have fixed the problems in both vehicles but the light remains on. My G-ma gave us the Tacoma and said the light been on and off since she got it but, I’ve had it for about 3 years now and it’s been on the whole time. My husbands truck (the Chevy) had an exhaust problem and he fixed it and his check engine light will not go off either. His is standard. Please help me!!! If you have any more questions or need more info to help just write and ask. Please and thank you!!!
A: cheap way to go is if you can remove the bulb from the console , this requires nimble touch and not to damage your truck. remove the entire clock, remember where the check engine light bulb is remove it and shine a flash light through it to make shure replace the clock and ur good to go
make sure u get it checked out u don’t want a simple sensor running your entire engine
if i am correct the Chevy carries a LCD display screen u might have to carry it to the dealer
simplest solution carry ur trucks to a garage and service them
Q: How can I make my 02′ toyota tacoma go faster?
How can I make my tacoma go faster and possibly get better gas milage? Is this even possible?
A: the front face of the air box , cut it out so the air isn`t so restricted. I did it on my 2000 and the throttle response was alot better.
Q: Where can I find a bench seat for my 09 toyota tacoma?
I have a new tacoma, but don’t like how low the bench seat is, nor the fact that it can’t recline.
Where can I find a replacement bench seat that reclines, and sits higher?
A: I don’t think you’ll be able to find one.
Bench seats are a very small niche market since most new Trucks and no New Cars have them.
I tried a quick search on Google and I couldn’t find anything for a replacement.
Until there’s enough interest (read Profit) no company will bother to make one either.
Sorry!
Q: How do you turn off service lights on Toyota Tacoma?
I have service lights on, and I just got it serviced. I have a tire light on, and I just got 4 brand new tires. Is there something I can do personally to get those annoying lights off? I have a 2006 Tacoma PreRunner
A: You need a scanner to scan the trouble code and fix the problem, then erase the trouble code with the scanner.
Q: Why doesn’t my purchased compass not work in my Toyota Tacoma?
I purchased a cheapy compass for my Tacoma. It always points north, so I figured I bought a crappy compass. HOWEVER it turns out when it’s on my windshield, it points north, but when it’s close to my console or further or anywhere else, it works correctly. Does anyone know if there is a magnetic substance in the windshield that would cause it to do that?
A: yes. there may be a good reason it does this, try changing locations
Q: As a first vehicle, Honda Ridgeline or Toyota Tacoma?
Which would you rather have as a first vehicle (used)- a Honda Ridgeline or a Toyota Tacoma? Try to justify your reasoning as well. I want to be able to do minor offroading if I want, but nothing major at all. I also want a bed, but I don’t need an incredibly long one. Thanks.
A: A first car is always a tough decision. At least you have it narrowed down to two vehicles. Both have their merits, but it all comes down to what you value most in a vehicle.
Both the Honda and Toyota were top scorers in reliability, so either one will serve you well there, and they both come with V-6 engines and in crew cab configuration.
If you want to do some minor off-roading, I would say go for the Toyota. The V-6 is a little stronger for off-road driving, it has much better ground clearance, and it offers a true 4-Wheel Drive system with Hi and Lo range modes. If you want gas mileage, the Toyota is also the better choice, as it gets 1 mile per gallon better city mileage and the same highway mileage as the less-powerful Honda. Toyota also offers a manual transmission, which will increase mileage, and a 4-Cylinder engine, which increases it even more. Toyota also offers regular cab and extended cab models, which weigh less, which equals better performance and better gas mileage, assuming you don’t need to carry more than three people. If you plan on hauling anything beyond people, the Toyota is also the better choice. It has a body-on-frame design, which allows for the hauling of more cargo and much heavier trailers than the Honda, and it also offers a longer bed. The Toyota can also be bought for much less than the Honda, unless you want a crew cab with the 4-Wheel Drive and a V-6 with an automatic, in which case it’s only slightly less.
On the other hand, the Honda offers a more carlike drive thanks to the unibody design and a smooth engine with an automatic-only transmission. The back seat is also more comfortable than the Toyota’s, and the ride is nicer too. The Honda’s not good for off-roading, not good for hauling anything beyond light payloads, and not good for gas mileage (it’s only rated at 15 city and 20 highway – I had a 1990 Ford F-150 4X4 with a 6-Cylinder that averaged 19.5 miles per gallon).
There you have it. Unless you value comfort above all else, the Toyota is the way to go. However, I would also suggest looking at the new Ford Ranger which is coming out soon. The old model was rated as the highest-mileage compact pickup, and is one of the cheapest you can by (next to the Chevrolet Colorado). Thanks to the good gas mileage, smooth drive, good off-road performance (particularly with the FX4 Stage II and Stage III packages), and cheap price, it was ranked higher than the Toyota for years, until Toyota’s redesign recently. I expect the new model to leapfrog the Toyota once again. If you don’t mind waiting awhile, I’d say wait for the Ford. If you need a truck now, the Toyota’s the best bet.
I hope this has answered your question. If you have any more, please feel free to ask.
Q: Is it possible to install an automatic car starter on a vehicle with a manual transmission toyota tacoma 2006?
toyota tacoma 2006 prerunner manual 5 speed
A: It should be the same starter.
Q: How and where, do you add transmission fluid to a 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
I found a dipstick (not the engine oil stick)with a T-handle, but it’s not labeled and it’s on the passenger side – it says on the end of this stick “Dexron II. Is this the power steering fluid stick or the trans stick?
There is no reference in the owner’s manual to trand fluid. Is that possible? You can’t add trans fluid to a Toyota???
A: If its a long stick it’s transmission fluid. You add through that hole with a funnel. Careful-don’t overfill.
Q: how to take the dash of a 1998 toyota tacoma out?
i am trying to install a new cd player in my 1998 toyota tacoma and am having a diffucult time getting the dash off, if anyone knows how or knows where i could find out help would be appreciated,
PS crutchfield didn’t have anything
A: I am assuming that you want the center section out so that you can remove the radio and the lower box. If you will remove the heater control knobs by pulling them straight off, you will find screws hidden behind them. When you take those screws out, the center panel should come out and reveal the radio bolts, though you may have to pull really hard. If this doesn’t seem to do it, email me at toyodave@yahoo.com and I will send you an Adobe file of the repair manual page. Good luck and God Bless!
