if u want to modify it, u better have money to spend, because if u want an auto, a crappy junky automatic transmission is not gonna cut it. ur probably gonna need a racing 4 speed to handle that power. it is a 8 liter V10, a dinky transmission is not gonna cut it, thats why they put manuals in it, it can take the power and stress. but once again, its a lot of money to get a good tranny that can handle the power

Q: Why did Valvoline advertisement, show a man putting Conv. Oil in a Dodge Viper?
I was reading, I believe a Car and Driver magazine. Valvoline advertised their conventional oils. On the picture, it shows a man putting Valvoline Conventional oil in a Dodge Viper.

I’m going to buy a Dodge Viper; fill with Valvoline conventional and sue when the Viper breaks down. I don’t even think that their Synthetic oils are not Viper approved.

A: just advertising nothing else. vipers come with Mobil 1 synthetic from the factory, however any oil meeting the specified requirements from daimler chrysler work. generally most viper owners take their cars to viper specific shops or else a dealer for service.

i know there are places to rent your dream car, i want to rent a viper for my husband on our aniversary. i have tried searching online but have found nothign usefull. we live in cali in the central coast between pismo beach and santa barbara, anyone know somewhere close we can rent one? or maybe of a rental place that will deliver the car. please help i want tthis for him sooooooooo bad!

Q: Are there any glaring problems with the 1997 Dodge Viper GTS?
I am about to buy one in a couple of days and it seems that there are a lot of them with low miles or so they claim. Everybody says they have the best Viper and I am asking before I make the big jump…….Thanks in advance.

A: yes ,operating cost and insurance as well as some mechanical problems that will happen to it,if your buying this one have it checked really good before you buy it,most owners of vipers usually took good care of them,especially the gts models those were nice,just make sure your getting what your paying for,i know the price of this isn’t going to be cheap,so make sure it has no hidden problems,most of those did real good if they was maintained,but they are expensive to keep up,and parts is really high for them,make sure you get your moneys worth from it,and have it checked really good before purchasing it,good luck with it.

They are both dodges so it should be possible.

A: I’m sure it’s possible,but with some hefty modifications. I’d first make sure that it will fit in the engine bay. Then I’d find a computer wiz who can get the car’s computer to talk to the v-10’s computer. It will probably run but the transmission might not shift. We ran into this at a shop I used to work at when we installed a v-8 in a Prowler.

A: A viper is a chick magnet.

A: they both require regular servicing and need parts , viper has 2 extra spark plugs to change but all in all they both require maintenance as does any vehicle. Although parts prices may differ it is all part of owning a vehicle. You want to drive them, you have to keep them up.

Q: Im painting my dodge stealth a charcoal color from a dodge viper how much could i expect to pay?

A: If your looking for a good quality job it’s going to cost. I just painted a 71 camaro candy apple red. It was a color change from brown, I did the complete car, jams, engine compartment ect for $1600. But this was with no body damage and no rust. So it all depends on the condition of your car and the quality of job you want.

Q: How does Dodge Viper SRT-10 VVT (variable valve timing) work?
I read that it has VVT on the exhaust side. As far as I know it uses a single cam in block design that controls both intake and exhaust. have they changed this? are there 2 cams now? otherwise how can it have VVT on the exhaust side only. Maybe they have some kind of special lifters or something.

OK I don’t need to know what VVT means or what it does. I’m asking how they can phase the cam to only affect the exhaust side. If the cam is phased it will affect the intake side the same because both exh and int lobes are on the same cam.

Does it just phase the cam and affect both? like the GM system? or do they have a way to alter the exh side without touching the intake?

A: It electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are open and closed according to engine speed and load.

It requires what they call a cam phaser that controls the camshaft itself, which is specially designed for the variable timing.
