Q: What would be the correct price range of a 2005 Mazda rx-8 automatic used?
I heard you should be very careful when buying a Mazda RX-8 with a rotary engine, it could be going bad! with the previous owner not taking very good care of it, So I was wondering what price range a used 2005 mazda rx-8 auto would be? and are there any questions I could ask the dealer to make sure im not getting ripped off?

A: Remember the phrase buyer be ware!! The sales person is making money on a sale. So they just want you to buy the car. Go to KBB.com to see what the current value is of the RX-8. Then you can put all the options that this car has and rate the condition that it is in.

Q: When buying a 2005 Mazda RX-8 is a automatic transmission really that bad if thats the only way you know how t?
I don’t know how to drive a manual transmission and i don’t think I’m interested in learning either! it seems like constant work like always shifting. I know it has it’s benefits but I was wondering If driving the mazda rx-8 automatic transmission is really bad…would it wear down the engine faster?

A: An automatic RX-8 is like an automatic any-other-car-you-see-on-the-road. It won’t wear down the engine faster. Learning how to drive manual is a fairly easy process, I learned when I was 16 years old and even now I learn something new every day. I’d argue that it is more fun to drive a stick because you are (in a sense) more connected with the car (you’d feel much more feedback than driving a slushbox) but if you commute often and really don’t have the time or patience to learn, then an automatic is perfect for you.

Q: What type of HID’s and fog lights can/should I buy for my 2005 Mazda RX-8?
Im looking to install HID’s and Fog Lights to my 2005 RX-8 but know nothing about the difference and which ones better suit my car. Anyone can help me out?

A: According to the checker at http://www.hids4u.co.uk/, your Mazda uses H7 bulbs for dipped beam and H9 for main beam, assuming it is still using the factory fitted halogens.

There are upgrade kits available that use the existing headlight units and holders – they consist of a ballast and HID bulb (+ cables) for each side. These are a fairly straightforward upgrade and can be done by any competent DIYer.

The other option is to get the entire headlight unit from a RX-8 that had the factory fitted HID headlight. These used D2S bulbs, but would be VERY expensive from Mazda, so you might find a search of scrap dealers useful.

For the bulb colour, 5000K gives a great pure white light. 4300K is the OEM white with slight yellow tint, and 6000K gives a blue tint, but at the cost of some light output.

Q: What’s your personal opinion of the Mazda RX-8?
I’m thinking of buying a used 03-05 Mazda RX-8 (GT) with a 6 speed manual transmission. Any thoughts? Pros/Cons from other RX owners?

A: I love my RX-8. It is THE most unique vehicle on the road due to it’s innovative engine. The new generation rotary engine has solved many of the problems that plagued the RX-7 and prior rotary engines. Though underpowered the home of an RX-8 is not on a 1/4 mile strip but in a winding road course. It handles like a dream. Near 50/50 weight distribution and a wide stance along with a decent set of tires will keep you stuck to the road. You will feel a pinch in the wallet when it comes to gas, it only takes premium and for a little fun you can try racing fuel (the engine reacts wonderfully to it). Cosmetic upgrades can be found at rx8strakes.com, and I would highly recommend the typhoon ram air intake system from K&N for added performance and a hell-of-a growl. I own an 06 GT model w/ auto trans. and have to pay a little more attention to the rpm’s to keep them up there to keep the engine clean (High RPM’s keep the carbon residue down), with the manual trans. that shouldn’t be a problem and you get an extra 10hp over the automatic.

Q: What are your opinions on The 2005 Mazda RX-8?
I’m planing on buying a used car soon and it would be my official first car… And I’m very interested in the mazda rx-8 I think its a amazing looking car. love the style and I hears its not bad on the road either but if anybody has any advice for me? or reviews about the car? and how much would you pay for a used version of the car? p.s whats being offered for the car price is 14,449

A: Unlike most cars, the RXs take some extra effort every time you drive them. You have to let them warm up before you start, and cool down before you shut them down. Read up on their particular quirks, and if you’re ok with the extra care required, go for it. Just make sure you get one with a stickshift. People who buy sports cars with automatics should be shot. This is even more true in the RX-8; the manual version revs to 9000 RPM, but the auto only revs to 7000. In a low torque car like this, you need to make your power by keeping the RPMs through the roof, and that extra 2000 will make a lot of difference….

Q: How to maintain my Mazda RX-8?
Hello! I just bought a Mazda Rx-8 2004 with 44,000mileage and in perfect condition. So what I need to know is maintainenance tips such as red lining the car every few days and reving it before you turn it off that sort of stuff.

A: dont wind it out till its up to temp
dont shut it down cold!
redline it at least once per outing
keep oil fresh and topped off! check oil every other fillup!
replace plugs every 30K!
enjoy car….
and do NOT use synthetic oil!

Q: What kind of oils are good for a Rotary engine in the Mazda Rx-8?
I heard that you can’t use just any type of oil in a mazda rotary engine and I was wondering what kind are perferred? like the best for that?

A: If it say synthetic than use Recommended or Royal purple or any oil with a low Ash deposit content.

Q: How much would it cost to get a paint job on an rx-8 mazda?
its black now and I want it white.

A: Cheaply and that you will hate….$800

Excellent and you will love……….$4-6000

Q: How to open 2005 Mazda Rx-8 keys?
How do you open the keyless entry key/remote for a 2005 mazda rx-8? I need to replace battery.

A: take it to a shop so you dont screw it up… i had to reorder 2 of them trying to replace the batt

Q: How to remove radio from Mazda RX-8?
I need to know how to get the stock radio out of my 2004 RX-8? It just will not come out for some reason. The top display isnt working and I need the radio out to see if there are any fuses behind it. Thanks!

A: No special tools required. There is a hidden 10mm bolt on the passenger’s side of the radio securing the radio to the inner dashboard bracket. You have to access it from the passenger’s side. The radio should pop out with little resistance when you remove it.

Q: Is it difficult to convert a automatic Mazda RX-8 to a manual?
I really would like to have a manual but i don’t want to loose the engine i have because it is practically brand new. If you do change it do you have to swap the gauges or will it not make a difference?

A: Yes, you would definitely lose your engine, and as stated before, you would have to get a new gauge cluster because it’s different for manuals.
Hate to mention this, but it would also cost a lot of money to do this…
You would seriously be better off selling your whole car, and then buying a manual 6-speed.

Q: Does anyone know where I can get a Mazda RX-8?
Because i plan on getting a Mazda RX-8.

A: tried a mazda dealer?
tried ebay?
tried a local second hand car yard or dealer?

do i have to do all the work

Q: What is the difference between these models of the Mazda rx-8 2006-09?
I am a first time buyer and I really like sports cars and just coupes so naturally i love how the mazda rx8 looks and been interesting in buying it for a year now, but i noticed it has three different models like the mazda rx8 sport, the mazda rx8 touring, the mazda rx8 grand touring. basically i was wondering what was the difference between the three models pros and cons and which was better to have. info would be great in my buy and much appreciated

A: The models are very similar for this car. They all have the same engine and transmissions available, same gear ratios, they all have limited slip differentials, the only real differences are option packages.

The current R3 model is a slightly stripped, firmer handling car. The one I’d get if I were ordering one new. Beyond that, some of the main differences are as small as leather or cloth seats, sat nav or not, things like that.

If you’re buying used, buy for the condition, year, mileage and price more than option package, or at least I always do.

Q: How Do you reset the ecu in a 04 Mazda RX-8?
I installed a typhoon K&N air intake and also a Greddy SE exhaust. Do I need to reset the ecu unit in order for it to get the air/fuel mixture right? Or does it self adjust after a while?

A: t the K&N shouldnt need any tuning.

i’m not sure about the exhaust, it depends on if you replaced the header, but even then i doubt it. All you have done is increased airflow rates as opposed to changing compression, if you installed a turbo you would want to adjust the amount of fuel because your dealing with forced induction instead of naturla aspiration. you dont need to change anything.

To Reset the ECU disconnect your battery for 5mins.
Air/Fuel is hard programmed in so it wont matter.

Q: Is the Mazda RX-8 considered a “girly” car? Would it be cool for a guy to drive?
Would the Mazda RX-8 be a cool car for a guy to drive?

About half of the guys at my school are hicks and drive pickup trucks, and I hate pickup trucks. Anyway, I really like the Mazda RX-8, but It seems like it could be a girly car. Do a lot of guys drive it? Would it be cool for a guy to drive?

I’m also looking at the Honda Element, is that cool? Thanks.

A: I think the question you need to ask is…

Do you want a Cheerleader in your RX-8? or

Do you want Marlboro smoking chunky redneck girl in your pick-up?

The RX-8 is a chick magnet, not a chick car.

I drive a Miata, no problem with my masculinity. In fact, I race competitively in SCCA with modified Corvettes and the such and win. The Corvette drivers don’t believe it is a chick car.
