Q: Do they sell ‘hot hatches’ other than the VW Gold GTi in the US?
In the UK, quite a few manufacturers sell ‘hot’ versions of their compact hatchback cars with anything from 180 to 265bhp, and more performance orientated parts like the suspension, brakes etc. to make sure they corner well too. Costing from about £16,000 upwards. An example would be the VW Golf GTi. Other than that are there any others on sale in the US?

More examples from the UK would be: Mini Cooper S, Mazda 3 MPS, Honda Civic Type R, Ford Focus ST, Seat Leon Cupra, Audi S3, Vauxhall/Opel Corsa VXR, Vauxhall Astra VXR, Renault Megane R26.

I would imagine these would be quite good in the US as they’re powerful but not ridiculously bad on mpg, which wouldn’t matter as much anyway, yet they’re still good for taking the kids to school and doing the shopping etc. but maybe most Americans would prefer something bigger and cheaper? (and more like driving a bus lol)

A: In US we have Mini Cooper S, Mazda 3 MPS, Ford Focus, Volvo C30 T5, I know bmw has a hatch.

we have Civic Si hatch with same engine same hatch but ours only have 165hp. And not like type R engine from UK or japan.

now we have si coupe and sedan witch it has 200hp.
we also have RSX type S(integra)

The new 08 Impreza wrx, and sti is hatch now.
The new 09 wrx has 265hp witch its way better than previous 225hp wrx. But I did just go for the sti its better, but pricy.

I like everything about the gti but except the car is bit heavy for a hatch back I mean 1600kg that’s a lot for a hot hatch. Other than that its all good.

U.S is great place for motor sport. And you don’t have to pay Co2 tax. The only problem is we have limits on modifying our cars in some states

ok. so i am starting to look for cars to buy. i want a used car. preferably a bmw or a mini cooper. a convertible would be ideal. but isnt needed. i like white or black cars, but any color is ok.

does anyone know of good websites or cars that are for sale?

also i dont want to spend a whole bunch of money. the cheaper the better. and no older then 2000. i know its alot to ask. but some of the stuff is possible.

Q: 17 year old got into minor fender bender…now has to pay $910?
OKAY i got into a minor fender bender with some guys car that was a rental mini cooper, it was literally 2 scratch marks, but since it has to be replaced because its plastic, hes charging me 910 dollars to replace the whole bumper section. as you can imagine im pretty stressed, my parents are making me pay for ALL of it myslef and i work a little coffee shop place 8 dollars an hour…im still in highschool.

MY MAIN QUESTION is: what is there to do that can make me some extra money on the side…like recycling cans? bake sale maybe? side photography jobs? IM JUST STUCK! 910 is so much money and i still want to buy people christmas presents. someone help me out here…):

A: There is absolutely no reason you should have to come up with the cash. The insurance on the car you were driving should pay for the damages to the other car. Your deductible amount has no bearing on the damage to the other person’s car, it only comes into play on damage to your car.Do your parents think this will teach you some sort of lesson?. I think you have already stressed enough. You have not once denied your responsibility and that says a lot about your character. Too bad your parents don’t see that side of you.

i found this 2004 mini cooper for 2,900$ the price is amazing!!!! the lady told me she’s retired and the car belonged to her son who died in iraq last year so she has no use of the car.

this was her message:

They are acting like a third party in this deal. They will keep the payment until you receive the car, and have it tested for 5 days. ebay will send you the payment invoice. You will then have to send the payment like is stated in invoice, they will contact me if the payment is cleared to ship you the car. They will not release the payment to me until you’ll receive the car and all the papers (notarized bill of sale signed by me), inspect it, and gave your approval for buying.
Also, in case you do not like it or you are not 100% satisfied (though I can assure you that this won’t be the case), they will refund you the payment amount. If you want to proceed I will need: Your full name, shipping address and phone number required by the Shipping company (They will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day prior to arrival).

Q: Hillman Imps.?
A recent question asked about mini coopers, I recently owned a 1968 Hillman Imp I had to let go in 2004. I owned it since 1991 when had 30,000 miles on the clock, I only put an extra 5000 miles on it before sale.

Archives suggest a ‘North American’ version of the Imp existed, there is definitely notes for the variants in the old Haynes manuals.

I’m guessing these cars only existed in Canada or upstate New York, The anomoly of the british version is that most of the chassis numbers are unaccounted for, i.e. the cars were never scrapped. Read into this what you will. It may have something to do with the aluminium alloy engine mounted in the back. A lot of them were taken for water pumps for fire engines in the UK.

I digress. Does anyone in the US or Canada have a Hillman Imp, pre. 1975 ?.

A: I absolutely loved those little cars :)
As a child my uncle had one and even though it gave him problems on numerous occasions he idolized it. It was a massive head turner at any event. It is in his garden now to this day with a thick tarpaulin cast over it. He often reminisces about what he carried in it and what speeds he reached – though the later is when hes had a drink.
